Sharp Objects- episode 1

Another week, a new HBO show for me to take on. The show comes from Marti Noxon. She is the creator of such shows as "Unreal". This time she is taking on the Gillian Flynn novel "Sharp Objects".  After the massive success of "Gone Girl", back in 2014, I feel like another attempt on an adaptation of her work will be judged heavily.
Amy Adams stars as Camille, a reporter for the St. Louis Chronicle, who is sent back to her home town to investigate the disappearance of two girls. Upon her return, she is met with contempt from her mother (Patricia Clarkson). She is also not very welcome by the police, who see her investigation as an imposition on the town. Through the episode, we are given flashbacks that give us the start of the reason why Camille stays away from the town.
The performances of the lead women ( Amy Adams and Patricia Clarkson) are exemplary. Camille needs to be shown as a weak and broken person. So far, she is selling this well. Patricia Clarkson is great as a lady who is insanely protective of her daughters.
The show is also shot very well. It is able to capture the south beautifully. The camera is used  well to make the Camille character feel isolated.
If I had to give a negative for this show, it is starting very slowly. I know there is seven more episodes to this series, best we can say is it is a slow burn show. Time will tell what will come of it.
