Back to the Future- A retrospective
Being 36 years old I never had the pleasure of seeing this film in the theater. That all changed tonight.
I think that the point of this post will be to appreciate this movie.
Michael J fox was becoming more, and more of a household name thanks to Family Ties. This got him the movie "Teen Wolf". Down the street from "Teen Wolf" they were shooting the film "Back to Future". Eric Stoltz was originally cast as Marty, but they felt like he was not hitting the comedic bits. After five weeks of filming, he was fired. Who do they get to replace him? The thought was Michael J Fox. The problem was NBC was unwilling to share. There was a lot of back and forth, until it was agreed upon that he would shoot Family Ties during the day and back to the future all night.
There is much to love about this movie. This is a movie that runs on so much charm. For the movie to work you needed a strong chemistry between Marty and Doc Brown. Chris Lloyd and Fox having such a convincing relationship.
The script written by the Bob's ( Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale) brings a well paced movie with well developed, iconic characters. My personal favorite would probably be George Mcfly. He's such a silly character that goes through arguably the most significant change. He starts out as a timid person, afraid of going after Lorraine. By the time it is over he stands up to Biff Tanner and gets the girl. Crispin Glover has the awkwardness of the character down, which makes it work so well.
If you have never seen this movie do yourself a favor and watch it. There is a reason it is a classic.
