Skyscraper

When I sit down for a Dwayne Johnson movie, above all else I expect the movie to be entertaining as hell. Can the new"Skyscraper" hold up to this ridiculous standard?
Will Ford ( Dwayne Johnson), a retired FBI agent is now an assessor of security systems. A former  FBI friend (Pablo Shreiber) gets him a big account with the tallest skyscraper in the world, the Pearl. When a group of terrorist take over the tower, Ford is the only one that can stop them.
For a movie that is supposed to be taking heavy inspiration from "Die Hard" and  "Towering Inferno", it takes a really long time to get going. For a movie with  one hour and forty- nine minute run time, the fact that it takes almost eighty percent of the movie for anything to really happen.
As you may, or may not know, the effects needed for this film are great. The biggest out of all of them is the use of fire. I hate the use of fake looking fire so much. Obviously, they could not set a whole skyscraper but over use takes me out of it.  Along the same lines with the effects is the green screen. When it is used correctly, it should be, less than noticeable. This film was very noticeable with it's green screen. This effectively killed the epic scale it was attempting to achieve.
One thing that is always very consistent in Rock movies, is the Rock himself. He always gives it all, and it shows in his roles. This movie is no exception. This time, it does help keep this from being as bad as it could be.
It is not every time where I watch a movie from the Rock where I am not thoroughly entertained, even when it came to "BayWatch".  The movie was not great, at all, but I still had fun watching it. What does it say about this?
