Boundaries

Recently, I have had a little more of a wider option when it comes to movies of the indie variety. This one I have here, is one, I am sure close to no one has any idea what this film is even about. That is ok though, it is what I am here for.
Jack (Chris Plummer), has been kicked out of another retirement home. Desperate to find a new place to live he contacts his estranged daughter, Laura (Vera Farmiga). It so happens, that at the same time, Laura is in need of help from him. Her son Henry ( Lewis MacDougall), was just expelled from public school, because he kept drawing people naked. Laura contacts her father, in hopes of getting money to pay for Henry's schooling.
First of all , with a cast like what this movie has, which also includes Peter Fonda and Christopher Lloyd, expectations should be high. When you look at it in terms of the acting, it is well done, especially from the leads (Chris Plummer and Vera Farmiga).
One thing I always hate about road trip movies is how filming tends to only be in one place,  and they use a green screen to simulate going to the different locations. This bugs the crap out of me because it makes it seem like the drive is fake. For this film, it was done in Vancouver, but it actually looked like natural scenery. This made the viewing experience more enjoyable.
If I had to pick one big gripe I had with this film, it be the screenplay. This movie is a great start as to a father and daughter coming to terms with their feelings about each other. I feel like this emotional journey is done too quickly. I felt like it could have give more in the development of this relationship. I  also believe the tension moment is over way too fast, and its on to the loving again. The movie squandered its story potential.
This movie was still very enjoyable, even if its not as deep as you would hope.
        GRADE: C+
