Antman and the Wasp
With "Infinity War" being released in May, they needed something a little less depressing. Do they get it with "Ant Man and the Wasp"?
The story picks up two years after the events of "Civil War". As apart of Scott's (Paul Rudd) probation, he is not allowed to have any contact with Hank ( Michael Douglas) or Hope (Evangeline Lilly). At the beginning, neither Hope or Hank want anything to do with him. Scott was the reason why they were forced underground. Scott uses the ant man tech and Hank gets blamed for the use of it. They must forgo the hate for Scott because they feel he has the answers to get Hope's mother ( Michelle Phiefer) back from the Quantum Zone.
It is probably most important to remember this is one of the more fun than a lot of the Marvel. This is its biggest plus.
As in the previous film, Michael Pena gets a good role, and completely runs with it. It is very amusing to watch. When you can tell the actor is having fun, the audience tends to have more fun with it as well.
The emergence of the wasp was a great, addition to the ant man universe. It did always feel like the original was wasting Evangeline Lily's talent.
With good also comes bad. The villain this time around was probably one of the worst I have see for the Marvel cinematic universe. Ghost ends up not really being the villain, making way for someone else, even more boring.
This film I felt like I was watching Captain Jack Sparrow do his thing. Let me explain what I mean by this. In all of the "Pirates" movies, except the first one, Sparrow was always doing dumb things, but still was able to pull off the win in the end. This feels the same way watch this film. I just do not feel like it was necessary to make Scott Lang dumb. It made me want to yell at the screen a few different times.
The movie is fun, even if it was a little flawed.
