Solo
We have come to the highly anticipated release of "Solo". Now the question remains, was it worth all the fuss? A quick back story, originally Phil Lord and Chris Miller were hired to direct the film and actually completed most of it, supposedly. One day we woke up to find out they had been let go, even though they were able to keep their executive producer credits. Soon after, it was revealed that Ron Howard was going to be taking over. The question we will have for a while, is how much of the film was reshot on top of what was left to do?
This film tells the story of how Han Solo meets his iconic friends Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian. It also set him on the path to becoming the rebel fighter he does in the original trilogy.
I think my biggest plus for this movie is the fact that it has two different directors and the tone stays the same. In the recent time, there was "Justice League" catastrophe. With two different directors, Zac Snyder and Joss Whedon, you could tell there was two different directors on the same project. This does make me wonder how much of the project was reshot? If not much, I think it would make it even better.
My other compliment for this film was, I think that the movie looked great visually. This especially was the case when it came to the fight scenes. This, again, was something that was very impressive considering the shortened post production schedule.
One of my bigger complaints for the film was the choice they made for who played Han Solo. Nothing against Alden Ehrenreich, but I felt like he did not carry half the charisma that Ford did in the same role.
One thing that felt kind of strange to me, was there was a lot of action in this movie, but it still ended up feeling slow. It could have been because of the fact that the movie was nearly two and a half hours long. To me that was roughly twenty minutes too long. It could have also bee the prequel curse. Even though there was a lot of action, having so many other movies with Hans Solo in it.
In the end, the film is not bad, but the prequel curse can hurt.
