Uncle Drew

So we have a full length movie commercial. The question is how good is it?
"Uncle Drew" started out as digital shorts for the Pepsi company in 2012. They became so popular, I am now sitting here reviewing their film version.
Uncle Drew (Kyrie Irving), and his street ball team ruled the courts in the 1960's and then vanished. Flash forward to 2018, Dax (Lil Rel Howery), fresh off loosing his team to Mookie (Nick Kroll), needs a new team before the big tournament coming up. Dax happens to wonder onto a court where Uncle Drew is playing. He convinces Drew to show the young people how the game is really played. The stipulation is, they must go on a road trip to get his old team back. Let the road trip shenanigans begin!
In a positive way, the movie is fun. It does take a while to get there, but once everyone is collected for the tournament, things pick up. The scene, in particular, being the club scene you get to see briefly in the trailer.
On the negative side, this story is just about as generic as it gets. Man gets an "unlikely" group together to rise above the antagonists of the story. Something we have seen countless times.
The thing that is not very surprising is the acting leaves a bit to be desired. Having said this, it is not all that surprising. Most of the cast are professional basketball player, so what could you possibly expect.
One thing, that I found amusing and terrible, at the same time, was the product placement. Not surprisingly, they put a Pepsi logo in wherever they could. There was also massive product placement for Jordan shoes towards the beginning of the film. I could of swore at one point I was watching a "Transformers" movie.
While not a God awful movie, it does suffer from being generic.
