The Wolf of Snow Hollow

The Wolf of Snow Hollow Review: A Quirky Werewolf Movie | Den of Geek

This photo belongs to Orion Classics. This was a film that came out in limited release this year over the pandemic. Movies like that, do not generally catch my attention. For some reason I just decided that I had to watch this trailer. It stuck with me, to the point when I saw it on Amazon today, my curiosity got the best of me.

The small town of Snow Hollow has multiple bodies start to pile up during several consecutive full moons. Police officer John Marshal (Jim Cummings) is losing sleep, raising a teenage daughter, and caring for his ailing father.  Marshall struggles to remind himself there's no such thing as werewolves, no matter how much the evidence says otherwise.

I do want to high light a few of the performances of the film. This does happen to be the final film of Robert Foster. Foster plays Marshal's father, and the town sheriff. He has been in many great films through out his career, such as "The Descendants", "Jackie Brown", and "Mulholland Drive". "Wolf of Snow Hollow" was a fun send off for him.  Jim Cummings is the highlight of the film for me. He is responsible for ninety-nine percent of the comedy, which he nails. Not only does he have to handle the comedy, his character has to handle the emotional lows. I have lived through that with my family, with the alcoholism.

I do want to hit on the werewolf it self for a moment. Off the bat, the design of it is amazing. Also, I could be reading too much into this but here it goes. I feel like the werewolf also is kind of like the beast on his back, like addiction and anger. Once the beast is vanquished, he can heal.  Who knows, I could be reaching though?

The biggest hump this film has to get over is the tones. This movie is considered a horror comedy. If these tones don't mesh the film wont work. The way that Cumming's character, John spirals in his anger, holds it together. If they had brought the comedy outside his character, I don't think it would have worked.  The best way to say it is "it's funny cause he's mean".  When the murder happens it does not feel weird.

This is something that I have to say I was not expecting, but I am glad I got to watch.
