Holidate

What is a holidate? The real life dating trend backed by science

This is a picture that belongs to Netflix. This is actually the first Netflix romantic comedy that I have watched. So it is easy to say that I had no idea what to expect.

The story surrounds Sloane (Emma Roberts) and Jackson (Luke Bracey). The  pair hate being single on holidays  because of the  constant judgment from their families. So, when these two strangers meet, they pledge to be each other's "holidate" for every festive occasion in the year ahead.

I have to admit that I was not expecting great things. I was kind of surprised. I went into this not expecting it to be, as well, R - rated as it was. I think the feeling that it was more grown up helped. There were actually several times where I laughed out loud.

Performances in the film seemed like they had fun. I did feel like there was a chemistry between Roberts and Bracey that really helped to sell the movie. Kristen Chenoweth, who plays Aunt Susan is a stand out in this. To be fair, she has charisma that lights up any material she is given.

In terms of the production, it really does make it seem like you are in Chicago, even if it was filmed in Georgia. Overall production, did not have anything that pointed either way that it was good or bad. I think that it could have used a bigger flair, there was no risk taking.

My final point Id like to cover is the story. The problem with the romantic comedy in general is they are very much the same. I suppose that its real point is if you have fun or not. I have trouble getting past the fact that it feels like I have watched it. I think when it comes to things like romantic comedies I have never felt like there was never enough going around story or screen wise to feel like I am not watching something I have seen a thousand times. This one, I will say almost gets me past this feeling, not quite.

If we can get more Netflix romance films like this, I think I could get on board.
