House with a Clock in Its Walls

This week marks a first in the career of director Eli Roth. He now has directed a family film! Considering his filmography, shocking does not quite capture the gravity of this situation.
The movie surrouds Lewis (Owen Vaccaro), as her  goes to live with his uncle ( Jack Black) in a cr house that has a strange ticktock noise. It does not take long for Lewis to figure out his uncle is a warlock.
Out of everything with this film, I think that the acting is what stood out the most. In particular the interactions they have with each other.
For a film that had a heavy reliance on the effects, they lacked a lot. There were many instances where things were unbelievable because of the effects.
Through about half the movie there was a great kids movie tone. It takes a drastic turn, becomes almost scary. I would go so far as to say it is too scary for young kids.
Overall, this is by far the best Eli Roth film. If he pulls back from the horror films, who knows what can happen?
